1993 - October 5, The Everett Area Alumni Association was formed
ProfilesHistory
Durring the 1991-92 school year a program called Renaissance was instituted in the Everett Area High School. The goal of the program being "excellence in education." One of the numerous subcommittees established within Renaissance was an alumni committee. Due to the growth of the program activities for the high school student's, the alumni matters were put on the back burner.
During the summer of 1993, Dwane Gochnour was asked to try to organize a group to handle alumni affairs. Representatives of graduated classes were contacted and asked to attend a meeting to discuss the possibility of organizing an alumni group. The first meeting was held on October 5, 1993 at the high school. Twenty-six class representatives attended the meeting. They included graduates from the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. That evening, the Everett Area High School Alumni Association was born. Dwane Gochnour, '47, was elected chairman. The following mission statement was adopted: "To promote, recognize and reward present and future alumni of the Everett Area High School." Two important objectives were agreed upon. They were (1) to award the first yearly alumni scholarship and (2) to begin publishing an alumni newsletter.
The third Tuesday of each month was established as the regular meeting night and we’re presently meeting at Kelly’s, 6:30 p.m., every month except December. Anyone who attended Everett High School is encouraged to attend along with all those interested in promoting, recognizing and rewarding present and future alumni of the Everett Area High School. The newsletter has grown from two black & white issues yearly to a quarterly publication printed in color. Interesting news articles about Everett Alumni are encouraged and welcome.
